How Rentals Get Reviewed

Every car rental aggregator or airport ground-transportation service covered on this site was booked with my own card, on an actual trip I was already taking. The comparison is always the same: aggregator price versus the direct counter rate for the same car class, same dates, same pickup window. I note the gap in concrete terms, what it amounts to in practical spend. What actually shows up at the counter gets recorded separately from the confirmation, because those two disagree more often than the booking flow implies.

Counter-level upsell attempts go into the notes by line item: CDW/LDW offer, supplemental liability, personal accident insurance, the personal effects add-on, whether the agent bundled them or ran through them one at a time. If I took one, I write why. If I declined and later wished I had not, that goes in too.

For off-airport locations, I track the shuttle in both directions. A lower daily base rate can get absorbed quickly by combined shuttle time at either end of the trip, and that arithmetic shows up in the review rather than getting buried in a star rating.

What I Cannot Verify for You

Rental pricing shifts by route, season, day of week, and how far in advance you book. The patterns here come from my rotation on my schedule, and a price gap that held SLC-PHX on a Tuesday morning in March may not hold on a Friday afternoon in July. Read the reviews as benchmarks, not guarantees. For questions about collision damage waivers or what your credit card covers, check directly with the counter agent or your card's benefits guide rather than treating my experience as the answer.
